Hi, everyone how are you doing today? I am back with a new destination place with you that’s the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. So, one of the place amongst which I have travelled is Andaman & Nicobar Islands. It, was a fun trip and I thing you will be enjoying this blog while reading and I hope you will be doing the same activities which I will mention further, if you visit the place.

About the Islands

Andaman & Nicobar Islands are a group of 572 islands out of which 37 are inhabited and the islands are located in the Bay of Bengal. The islands are divided into 2 groups one is the north latitude which comprises of the Andaman islands, the other is the south latitude which is the Nicobar islands. The island is under the control of the Indian army. There is also an island called Sentinel island which is the world’s only uncontactable tribe, due to their aggressive behavior and a long time of no contact with the tribe the government has banned not to contact the tribe with any mode. Rest information on Sentinel island will share some other day in another blog.

Visit to Andaman & Nicobar Islands

So, I planned a trip with my family to Andaman & Nicobar Islands from Chandigarh few years back in 2014 and it was a surprise plan by family, we have prepared to travel with in 10 days. The itinerary was prepared with the help of MakeMyTrip who not only helped us with the stay but also with the travelling and local cabs. It was a early morning flight from Delhi to Kolkata where we had a halt of 1:30 hrs. and then to Port Blair capital of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. As we reached their it was mildly raining and the weather was very awesome, the cab drivers were waiting for us we had 2 cabs booked as we were 9 adults and 1 child and 1 infant as we were accompanied by our other family members. So, it was a 6 hours journey by air and as soon as we reached their we had a plan to visit the light show in the evening but due to the rain the show was cancelled for that day.

The next day we had a plan for sightseeing where we visited the oldest saw mill the Chatham Sawmill which was 132 years old in 2014, although earlier the people can order the wood from the island and and can get furniture made by themselves. Later, on the government banned the transportation of woods as it was being used for smuggling of other illegal products with the woods. So, now an individual can provide the design of the required furniture and the saw mill will transport the furniture to the person. Then we visited the local museum, where there were all kinds of corals from a tiny coral to a big one. In the evening we visited the famous cellular jail and checked with the history and then there was a light show which was great.

The 3rd day we had a plan to visit further to Havelock Islands although there were 9 more nearby islands in a row but we had booked for Havelock only where we had a booking at a beach house. It was a 2 hours journey from main island to Havelock island and on the same day we have a visit to Radha beach in which was after our lunch and on the beach before we enter there is a caution board, where it is mentioned beware of the sharks, jelly fish and the salt water crocodiles. There we enjoyed on the beach and clicked some pictures and went back to the beach resort. Next day we went to elephant beach via motorboats as it was 15 mins journey. There we had many water activities like, banana ride, sofa ride, snorkeling and many more. We had fun the whole day and were tired and in the evening we went back to the beach house. The 4th day we had a return from the Havelock to the Port Blair which is the main island.

Near by and last Islands to visit.

It was the last day of the trip and we had some of the activities to complete, because of the rain some of the activities could not be completed like the visit to the caves as the tour guide told us that due to rain the caves can be slippery. The second thing which was the visit to the Trible areas which is also restricted due to rain. So we had only 3 nearby islands which we can visit and then local things which we can purchase. These three islands are Rose island, North bay island and the Viper island. On the Rose island we meet with the local wildlife which were only herbivores and were roaming around with humans, then on the North bay island people come for the Scuba diving activity. The Scuba Diving is aloud in a particular area only and in a particular range as the sea has many other creature which were dangerous, we were aloud till 13 feet of the water depth because at 15 feet's the shark area begins and the instructors had already warned us for the same. We enjoyed a lot their and then we moved further to the Viper Island as it was considered as the home for the Viper snakes and there was a place on a hill top of the same island where the earlier police used to hang people and used to directly drain the body into the sea after hanging. I have already mentioned about the cellular jail of the Andaman above they Jailor was very cruel and used to treat prisoners very badly, these stories can be heard in the light show which is held every evening. So, after that we had some things to be purchased as a souvenir and we came back to Chandigarh. As there were many things left to be done but will be completing those activities in future as will visit the island again. Till the time will wait for the expedition. Take care every one will share another experience with you.
